The 16-km-wide Tengger caldera is extremely big caldera with the 16-km-wide caldera is located at the northern end of a volcanic massif extending from Semeru volcano. Inside the caldera we can find the mystical temple (The poten). The Poten is the Tenggerese Hindu temple that sits in in all its mysterious beauty amidst the Sea of Sand surrounding Mount Bromo. This whole area has an oddly mystical allure that is not to be missed. and the stairs to the crater or Mt Bromo. The most recent of the Tengger calderas is the 9 x 10 km wide Sandsea Caldera at the SW end of the complex, which formed incrementally during the late Pleistocene and early Holocene.
The temperature around Mt Bromo is refreshingly cool during the day (between 10– 20 celcius at day time) but outright cold at night, with temperatures sometimes dropping to zero during the dry season and rarely going above 5°C during wet season (falls until 5-10 celcius at night). You can see Mt Semeru from Mount Bromo, it is ,676 meters above sea level, Semeru Volcano is the highest volcano in Java.

1. Milky Way Tour At Mentigen Hill or Penanjakan 2 Bromo
Bukit Mentingen or Mentigen Hill or Penanjakan 2 is located at 2,200 meters high above sea level. Mentigen is usually used as a camping ground since there is a wide space proper for star trails or star gazing, but at this moment this place is not reccommeded to visit based on there is a building for visitor to enjoy the sunset and the sunrise so it’s not much space for camping. Mentigen Hill is also used as an optinal spot for sunrise if Bromo cultural acityvity where the all kind of vehicle prohibited to enter the sea of sand (The access point to get to the main sunrise point or milky way point)
2. Bromo Milky Way Tour At Penanjakan Hill 1 – Bromo highest sunrise peak
Mount Bromo Sunrise or Milky Way Tour At Penanjakan Poin is the popular spot at Mount Bromo areas. You can reach Mount Penanjakan around 40 Minutes from Cemoro Lawang Village by 4WD Jeep. Avoid to visit this poin in the weekend of holiday because it will be crowded.
Penanjakan Hill is situated at the northern side of Mount Bromo Caldera. Penanjakan Hill popular for sunrise moments and its main destination in Mount Bromo. At the top points, There is no place for camping like in Bukit Mentingen, only small kiosks serving local food stores, hot drinking like coffee or tea.
3. Bromo Milky Way Tour At Kingkong Hill
Kingkong hill is also good spot to view Milky Way over Mount Bromo Milky Way. The Kingkong Hill is located near of Penanjakan Hill (Before Penanjakan Hill), it’s around 400 meter lower. Bukit Kingkong has flat wide space for camping. Kingkong Hill give you the best place to see the sunrise because this place is not too crowded
At this moment Kingkong Hill is very famous by visitors, there is another spot above kingkong hill but its in the same location. When you reach the kingkong hill, just walk to the north little bit and you will see small road to peak of small hill. It’s about 50 meters from the main point of kingkong hill but the view much better and good for stargazing.
4. Mount Bromo Milky Way Tour At Love Hill
Love hill is situated before Kingkong Hill, lower then kingkong hill. It’s good for view milky way a few years ago. At this moment this bukit cinta is the most traffic local visitors spot for sunrise, and a lot of 4WD vehicle get traped (Traffic jam) in this area before goes to the main view point Penanjakan Hill. I personally do not reccommend this place for view the milky way.
We recomend you To see Mount Bromo Sunrise at (Bukit Cinta) Love hill in peak season. especially in new years. because there will be a lot of visitors in the holiday season. There are lots of visitors who could not view the sunrise in that moment. Bukit Cinta or Love Hill also becomes one of option to see sunrise over Mount Bromo.
5. Mount Bromo Milky Way Tour At Argowulan Bromo
Argowulan is Special spot, not many people know this location, it gives best spot, best sunrise, amazing landscape and verry less people (sometime it will be your private places as i did with my customers). Speacial for phographer or photography lovers. To get to this location we will travel with 2 vehicles, first we will drive with 4WD Jeep to get to highest point at penajakan and then we will go to the location by scooter taxi.
Best Time to enjoy Milky Way over Mount Bromo
If you want to see Milky Way over Mount Bromo, the best time to start the trip is between 00:00 01:00 Am in the morning, when the weather is sunny without clouds. You should better go in the dry season in Indonesia between April to September.
